|With the end of the 2011 harvest upon us and a plethora of grape-stomping and other activities on offer all over the the Boland, Avontuur wine estate & restaurant is offering an evening with a difference on Saturday, 26 March from 18h30 onwards.|
|“Everyone is tired after a long, drawn-out harvest period, but one also has that sense of completion and satisfaction and what better way to celebrate that than with a lavish harvest feast, featuring all those fresh produce now available in the markets and on the farm,” says winemaker Jan van Rooyen.
With that in mind, Avontuur restaurant proprietors Melanie and Zunia came up with a harvest buffet featuring everyone’s favourites like charcuterie platters, cheeses, artisanal breads, a substantial soup, platters with veggies and salads as well as an old-fashioned carvery with roast free range chicken, roast beef and lots more! Desserts sound yummy with trifle like granny used to make and fresh fruit tarts highlighting seasonal produce.
Jan and his team will be on hand at arrival to spoil guests with a pre-view sneak tasting of this vintage’s early wines like the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and some of the red wines. The wines are still unfiltered and cloudy, but already show clear signs of quality.
With that will be a mini expo of winery and cellar artifacts which visitors can taste, smell, try out and just enjoy! These include various corks, bottle types, different yeasts, wood-ageing products, dry ice, a balling meter and a corking machine. Jan will be on hand to answer any questions.
From around 19h00 guests will be seated and the feast will start. Depending on the weather, the terrace may be booked, but with the cooler nights of Autumn upon us, most will surely prefer inside seating where a cosy fireplace is ready for winter!
The cost is only R165 pp, which includes the preview tasting, expo and dinner. It excludes wines, VAT and the service fee.
